What Makes a Good Keswick.net Listing?

Photos, a clear description and up-to-date details help visitors choose your business. Here is what to include, and how events help.

What Makes a Good Keswick.net Listing?

A good listing has clear photos, a short description that says what makes you different, correct contact details, and, if you run anything people can turn up to, your upcoming events. Visitors decide quickly, and many look at What's On when planning a trip, so a listing that answers their questions is the one that gets chosen. If you haven't listed yet, you can add your business for free.

What should a good business listing include?

Start with what people look for first: your name, what you do, where you are, and how to reach you. Add a phone number, email address and website if you have them.

Then add the details that help someone choose you, such as your cuisine, whether dogs are welcome, the areas you cover, or the type of accommodation. These also feed the filters on the category pages, so visitors searching for what you offer can find you.

How many photos should you add?

Add several. A photo is required before a listing can be submitted, but one is the minimum, not the aim. Use good light and show the place and the people: the room, the counter, the van, the view from your door. A real picture of a normal day beats a polished one that doesn't match what visitors find.

How do you write a description people actually read?

Lead with what makes you different, in plain language. "Family-run cafe serving homemade cakes near the lake" tells a visitor more than a long history of the business. Keep paragraphs short and mention what people ask most, such as whether you take walk-ins or welcome children.

Why do opening hours and contact details matter?

People give up if they can't find them. A visitor who can't tell whether you're open, or how to ask, will pick the next listing. Update your details as soon as anything changes, such as a seasonal closure or a new phone number.

Should you add your events too?

Yes. If you host live music, a quiz night, a market, a family day or a class, add it to What's On from your dashboard. Events can be one-off, weekly, monthly or yearly, so a regular night only needs adding once. Annual events can be run again in one click.

A listing with a few upcoming events looks active, and it gives visitors a reason to come now rather than later. If you're already listed and haven't added an event yet, the next one is a good place to start. Offers work the same way: you can add up to three at a time.

How do you know if your listing is working?

Your dashboard shows the enquiries people send you. From December we also email every listing owner a monthly summary of views and enquiries, with a tip. If you get views but few enquiries, try a stronger first photo or a clearer opening line, and check your contact details are right.

Keswick.net FAQs

How long does approval take?

Every listing is reviewed before it goes live, so it won't appear straight away. We'll be in touch if we need anything.

Can I change my listing later?

Yes. You can edit your description, photos and contact details from your dashboard whenever you like.

Can I add events and offers to my listing?

Yes. Once your business is listed, you can add events to What's On and up to three offers from your dashboard, free of charge.

Can I add an event if I'm not a business?

Clubs, charities and community groups can send the details through the Keswick.net submit page, and we'll add the event for you.

How many listings can I have?

Up to three per account, which is useful if you run more than one business.

How do I get more enquiries?

Add good photos, write a clear description, keep your details up to date and add your events. Listings that answer a visitor's questions are the ones that get contacted.
