Built in Keswick: Share Your Knowledge

Keswick.net is built in Keswick, for Keswick, and it only works if the people who live and work here help shape it. Nobody knows the town better than you. If you know a quiet walk, a favourite café or a parking tip that saves a headache, tell us on our Share Your Keswick Knowledge page.

What are we looking for?

Anything that helps someone enjoy Keswick and the northern Lake District. The page has six choices, so pick the one that fits:

  • Walk or route tip: short and easy walks, dog-friendly walks, and walks with pushchairs or small legs

  • Local secret or hidden gem: places and views visitors miss, and what to do on a wet day

  • Parking and getting around: where to park, and how to manage without a car

  • Event: something happening locally

  • Story or news: community stories and local news

  • Correction: something on Keswick.net that is out of date or wrong

If you only know one thing, send that. A single good tip is more useful than nothing.

Why does Keswick.net need local knowledge?

A guide written from the outside gets the obvious things right and misses the rest. You know what is worth doing when it rains, where people really park on a busy Saturday and which corners of the town visitors walk straight past.

We would rather build the guide with the people who know the place than guess. That is what “built in Keswick, for Keswick” means to us. It also helps us fill the gaps in things to do and eat and drink.

What happens to what you send?

We read everything. We check the details, write it up in our own words and sometimes get in touch to confirm something. You choose whether we use your name, and the same goes for any photo you send. Not everything will be published.

How should you describe a walk or a place?

Tell us what makes it good, who it suits, and the best time of year to go. Choose the nearest area from the list, from Keswick itself to Grasmere and Ullswater, or pick “Not sure”. You don’t need to give route directions. For the fells, we point readers to official mountain safety guidance rather than giving route-finding advice ourselves.

Please don’t send precise locations for nesting sites, private land or anywhere with real hazards.

Can businesses send tips too?

Yes, but a tip is not an advert. If you run a business in Keswick, listing it is free and takes about five minutes, and once your business is listed you can add your own events and offers. For general visitor advice, our visitor information page covers the basics.

Keswick.net FAQs

Why does Keswick.net ask locals for tips?

Because locals know the area best. Keswick.net is built in Keswick, for Keswick, so the people who live and work here should help shape what the guide covers.

Do I need to live in Keswick to send a tip?

No. Regular visitors often know the best places too. Tell us how you know the area.

Will you use my name?

Only if you tick the credit box on the Keswick.net form. That box also covers any photo you send. Otherwise we’ll use your tip without crediting you, and your email address stays private and is never published.

Can I send photos?

Yes, up to three on the Share Your Keswick Knowledge form. Only send photos you took yourself, and avoid photos where someone can be identified without their permission, especially children. We shrink them for you before they are sent.

Can I suggest an event?

Yes. Choose “Event” on the Share Your Keswick Knowledge page and give us the date, place and a way to find out more, and we’ll look at adding it to What’s On. Most businesses listed on Keswick.net can also add their own events from their dashboard.

How long until I hear back?

We read everything and will get in touch if we need more detail. We can’t promise to publish every tip or to reply to each one.
